What is Life Coaching?
Coaching is a partnership that helps guide people in maximizing their personal and professional potential. Coaches honor the client as the expert in their life and work. The coach’s role in the partnership is to help the client tap into their own creativity and resourcefulness in order to achieve self-discovery and identify the outcomes they want to achieve, and to hold the client responsible and accountable in taking the agreed upon actions.
Coaching concentrates on where clients are now and where they want to be in the future. Unlike therapy, coaching is much less focused on why things are the way they are. Instead, the work involves identifying what the client hopes to achieve and how the client will get there. Coaching involves the design of a life plan and the identification and development of specific goals and action steps within that plan. It’s the role of the coach to meet clients where they are, to empower them, to assist in sorting through challenges and priorities, to build success at identifying and fulfilling goals, and to replace negative or problematic self-messages with more positive ones.
